Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) - also known as Paris Roissy- is the largest airport serving Paris and the second busiest passenger airport in Europe after London Heathrow.
It is located 14 miles (23 kilometers) north-east of Paris and has numerous transport links to the French capital city by road and rail.
It is the world's fifth busiest airport in terms of passengers and Europe's busiest (world's 8th busiest) airport in terms of aircraft movements.
The airport has three modern terminals offering travelers quality facilities and services. The three terminals are connected by free shuttle buses and handle over 200,000 passengers daily. Terminal 1 handles international flights, excluding Air France, Terminal 2 Air France and other airlines flying to European destinations and Terminal T9 handles charter flights exclusively. Terminal 2 currently has five separate halls and is being further expanded to an eventual capacity of 50 million people by 2010.
Rail: RER trains serve the airport in conjunction with ADP shuttles. Line B runs from the TGV station at Terminal 2 to Gare du Nord, Châtelet-les-Halles, St Michel and Denfert-Rochereau, with connections for the métro. TGV and Thalys trains also run to various destinations in Paris and beyond. There is an SNCF desk on the fourth floor of Terminal 2 for public transport enquiries. Road: Taxi: A taxi to the city centre will take around 45 minutes. Limousine: The Aéroport Limousine Service (tel: (0)1 4071 8462) offers a limousine service for a fixed fare. Bus: The Airport Connection shuttle is a door-to-door minibus service to the city centre (journey time: 75 minutes). Places must be reserved in advance (tel: (0)1 4418 3602). Roissybus serves all three terminals and runs to Place de l'Opéra for the Paris métro (journey time: 45 minutes). RATP buses run from Terminal 1 and 2. Bus no.350 stops at Gare du Nord and Gare de l'Est, bus no.351 at the Porte de Bagnolet and Nation. Coach: Air France coaches depart from Terminals 1 and 2 to Place Charles de Gaulle and Porte Maillot and to Montparnasse and Gare de Lyon. They also provide connections to Paris Orly Airport, from Terminals 1 and 2.
Each terminal has its own covered car park with direct access to the terminal by lift. The long-term car park PR is for Terminal 1, and car park PX is for Terminals 2 and 3; all are linked by a free airport shuttle bus.
Money and communications: There are bureaux de change and at least one ATM in all three terminals. Post offices can be found in Terminals 1 and 2. Eating and drinking: There are plenty of bars and restaurants in all terminals. Shopping: There is a wide choice of shops in all three terminals. Luggage: Lockers are no longer available due to security concerns. There is a lost and found office in Terminal 1 (tel: (0)1 4862 1334) and Terminal 2 (tel: (0)1 4816 63 83). Other facilities: Prayer rooms are located in all three terminals. Medical services, including vaccinations, are available in Terminals 1 and 2.
Roissy Charles de Gaulle 1 Business Centre (tel: (0)1 4862 2290) in Terminal 1 has eight fully equipped meeting rooms, three offices and a VIP lounge with phone, fax, photocopying and video services; the maximum capacity is 15 delegates. Terminal 2 has two lounges offering business facilities, including wireless broadband Internet access; a third lounge will open in 2005.
The airport has excellent facilities for disabled passengers, who should inform their airline in advance of their special needs. Information desks also offer a special welcome service for disabled passengers. Reserved car parking spaces in designated areas and discount on parking is available on presentation of a valid disability badge.
